CES 2022: The gadgets I don’t need, but my house MUST have
Who’s gifting me these?
Kohler’s PerfectFill
Last year, one of the costliest items on my list was a $16,000 bathtub from Kohler. This year, I’m picking a slightly more ‘affordable’ product from the company:PerfectFill.
This new offering can fill (or drain) your bathtub with just a voice command. You can use the app to choose your perfect temperature and level of water. PerfectFill comes with a drain kit and a digital value to measure these things.
In the app, you can specify up to 10 bath times, so there’s no feud between family members. You’ll be able to pre-order PerfectFill later this year at $2,700.
Oral-B’s iO10 toothbrush
There’s no better childhood memory than your parents reprimanding you about not brushing your teeth properly. Guess what? You can relive that experience withOral-B’s new iO10— a toothbrush that has an in-built coach.
This digital assistant will guide you about brushing your teeth in real-time. It’ll tell you about your brushing pressure, duration, and coverage area, so you can tweak them accordingly. All of this is available without using a smartphone app. So that’s pretty cool.
The iO 10 comes with this puck-like iO sense charger, which also has a brushing timer so you can’t cheat your cleaning.
We don’t know about the price of this thing yet, but Oral B’s iO8 sells for $279.99. So we are probably looking at a toothbrush that will cost you at least $300.
Samsung’s Freestyle projector
TV’s great, but there’s a different feeling about having a watch party with your friends through a projector. While most projectors are a bulky mess with many wires,Samsung’s new Freestyle modelweighs just 830 grams and can rotate up to 180 degrees to make any surface a screen.
The Freestyle can beam up a 1080p screen from 30 inches to 100 inches in size. Plus, there are autofocus and auto-leveling features that’ll help it adjust to any surface. The device also has a 360-degree speaker for sound, so you might not need any additional gear.
What’s more, it comes with Samsung’s SmartTV platform, so you can load up apps like Netflix and Plex to access shows from your online or home library.
If you’re an outdoorsy person, you can buy an additional USB-C powered battery for projection where you might not have a power outlet.
You can preorder the Samsung Lifestyle for $899 in the US.
Withings’ scale
The company’s new product, the Body Scan, will tell you your ECG, segmented body composition (fat/water in your arms, legs, and torso), and nerve activity to detect signs of chronic diseases.
The Body Scanincludes four weight sensors and 14 ITO (Indium tin oxide) electrodes on the scale. Plus, there’s a handle with four stainless steel electrodes to use a low-level current and measure health readings for different parts of your body.
The new Withings scale will be available later next year after FDA approves it and will expectedly cost at least $300.
Moen’s smart faucet
All faucets in my house are dumb and I have to manually turn them on by rotating the tap. Boring.
Moen’s new smart faucetuses hand gestures to control the flow and temperature of the water flowing out. You can use the company’s smart water app to change these gestures into what you’re comfortable with.
If you don’t even want to wave your hands around, don’t worry. You can also use voice commands to control the faucet. Plus, there’s a “wash hand” command that pauses the flow for 20 seconds.
The new smart faucet will cost you at least $675. But can you put a price on hygiene?
10minds’ The Motion Pillow 3
Sleeping while someone’s snoring in the room could be really annoying as hell. And even if you want to kick the person’s butt, it’s not (often) the best solution.
The Motion Pillow 3listens to your sleeping sounds in a non-creepy way to detect snoring. If you’re doing that, the pillow gently inflates to put your head in a position that will reduce or stop snoring without disturbing sleep.
