About TNW
How many models can US buyers choose from?
There are 28 electric vehicle models available, produced by 18 different car manufacturers.
How are the automakers mapped?
Among the car makers listed, only six are based in the US: Tesla, Rivian, Chevrolet, Lucid, GMC, and Ford. And just three in total exclusively produce electric vehicles: Tesla, Rivian, and Lucid Motors.
Unsurprisingly, Tesla has the highest number of EVs available on the market with four different models: the Model S, the Model X, the Model Y, and the Model 3.
What’s the price range?
The priciest car one can buy is GMC’s Hummer EV Pickup at $110,295. The most affordable EV on the market is the Nissan Leaf at $27,400, followed by the Mini Cooper SE at $29,900.
Only seven cars out of the 28 cost below $40,000, and the average EV price out of the total is $58,806 — that’s alarming, given that the high prices of electric carsrepresent a significant barrier for American consumers.
What are the range statistics?
The winner here is the Lucid Air with 653km of range (406 miles), closely followed by the Tesla Model S at 652km (405 miles). The Mazda MX 30 delivers the most limited range among all models with a mere 161km (100 miles) of available juice.
The average EV range of all models is 405km (251.6 miles), and more than half of the available vehicles (15 out of the 28) offer a range between 322km (200 miles) and 418km (260 miles).
